The Grand Tour
- 2016
- Comedy
- Sport
- PG
Summary:
Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May travel around the globe in new and old automobiles.
How to watchWhy watch The Grand Tour: One for the Road?:
After more than two decades of collaboration, Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May go their separate ways in the emotional final act of this international adventure.
That's not before the usual motoring antics, however, with this latest romp seeing them each pick a car they have always dreamed of owning, with the intention of driving it across the landscapes of Zimbabwe (however impractical that may seem).
You know by now whether this show – and this presenting team – is your cup of tea or not, but if you've enjoyed their earlier work then this send-off is surely required viewing. Indeed, longtime followers may recognise the setting of the final scene.
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power
- 2022
- Action
- Drama
- 15
Summary:
Set thousands of years before the devastating events chronicled in The Hobbit and The Lord Of The Rings, this epic fantasy series chronicles events from the Second Age of Middle-earth's history including some characters that will already be familiar to fans of JRR Tolkien's work. Developed by JD Payne and Patrick McKay, The Lord Of The Rings: The Rings Of Power begins in a time of relative peace and harmony as characters from across the realm confront the re-emergence of evil. News of this insidious threat spreads quickly from the island kingdom of Numeno to the darkest depths of the Misty Mountains and the elf-capital of Lindon, home to High King Gil-galad (Benjamin Walker), Galadriel (Morfydd Clark) and Elrond (Robert Aramayo). New heroes rise and others fall as armies of arcs rampage across the kingdom and humans must stand side by side with elves, hobbits and other magical creatures to prevent a shroud of darkness from extinguishing all hope from the world.
How to watchWhy watch The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power?:
Reportedly the most expensive show ever made, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power had a pretty rough ride when it first debuted back in 2022. Not only was it the target of trolling, but it also faced some legitimate criticism over its slow pace and meandering storyline.
Fortunately, the reception to the show has seen a substantial uptick with the recently launched second season, which is altogether more focused now that Tolkien's legendary big bad Sauron is fully installed. What follows is an intense and exciting adventure through Middle-earth, which has dazzled viewers around the world.
Set thousands of years before the Lord of the Rings trilogy, the show introduces us to elves, dwarves and the Hobbit-like Harfoots, with a number of familiar names – including Galadriel and Elrond – proving pivotal to the story. If you’re looking for sweeping fantasy, epic vistas and a plot to intrigue, Rings of Power is arguably unparalleled.

- History
- 15
Summary:
Released five months after director Philip Martin's behind-the-scenes drama Scoop about The Duke of York's exclusive one-on-one interview with BBC Newsnight journalist Emily Maitlis, this three-part series recounts events through a different lens
How to watchWhy watch A Very Royal Scandal?:
Coming mere months after Netflix original film Scoop!, this three-part miniseries is considered by many to be the superior dramatisation of Emily Maitlis's infamous Newsnight interview with Prince Andrew, which ultimately led to his withdrawal from public life.
Here, Ruth Wilson plays the journalist and News Agents presenter, with veritable chameleon Michael Sheen disappearing into the role of the controversial prince. Thanks partly to a longer runtime, the show is able to delve deeper into the personalities at the centre of its jaw-dropping story, with each episode taking place in a different timeframe.
In his three-star review, RadioTimes.com's Drama Writer James Hibbs said that this results in a "more thoughtful" and "complex" take on the material.
Batman: Caped Crusader
- 2024
- Action
- Animation
Summary:
The DC Comics superhero faces an uphill battle to wrest Gotham City from the vice-like grasp of deranged criminals in a 10-part animated fantasy created by JJ Abrams, Matt Reeves and Bruce Timm. In public, Bruce Wayne (voiced by Hamish Linklater) is the epitome of gaudy success and charm as a money-squandering playboy, a hedonic image he cultivates to separate himself from his masked alter ego. Batman rampages through Gotham on a mission to eradicate crime at all costs aided by trusty butler Alfred Pennyworth (Jason Watkins) and this vigilante attracts the attention of Commissioner Jim Gordon (Eric Morgan Stuart). A prime target is screen actor Basil Karlo, whose fateful decision to change his facial features using an experimental serum gives birth to vengeance-seeking villain Clayface. Meanwhile, pampered heiress Selina Kyle (Christina Ricci) finances her lavish lifestyle as Catwoman and brilliant psychiatrist Dr Harleen Quinzel (Jamie Chung) indulges her dark and depraved desires as the anarchic Harley Quinn
How to watchWhy watch Batman: Caped Crusader?:
Gotham City's protector is reimagined for this brand new show, which comes from the all-star creative team of Bruce Timm (Batman: The Animated Series), Matt Reeves (The Batman) and JJ Abrams (Star Wars). The series puts a fresh lick of paint on some familiar characters, adopting a noir aesthetic and a period setting that helps it stand apart from more modern iterations.
The Caped Crusader cast also counts a number of big names, with Midnight Mass star Hamish Linklater playing the Bat himself, with Christina Ricci (Yellowjackets) as Catwoman and Jason Watkins (McDonald & Dodds) as Alfred. You should also listen out for Minnie Driver as a female version of classic Batman menace The Penguin, who comes to the forefront as gang warfare threatens to hit the streets of Gotham.

Those About To Die
- 2024
- Action
- Drama
- 15
Summary:
Daniel P Mannix's 1958 book Those About To Die provided the creative inspiration for Ridley Scott's Oscar-winning 2000 film Gladiator. The same tome is brought vividly to life in a lavish 10-part sword and sandals epic directed by Roland Emmerich and Marco Kreuzpaintner. In 79 AD Rome, ageing Emperor Vespasian (Sir Anthony Hopkins) makes preparations to hand over this throne to one of his sons, Titus Flavanius (Tom Hughes) and Domitian (Jojo Macari). Sibling rivalry epitomises tensions at the beating heart of the Roman Empire, where chariot races and gladiator fights at Circus Maximus sate the bloodlust of a restless and increasingly violent population. To appease the people, Vespasian presides over the construction of a gargantuan new stadium, the Colosseum, specially designed for gladiatorial and animal combat. Thousands of slave labourers toil to build the behemoth in a city riddled with greed and corruption
How to watchWhy watch Those About to Die?:
If you're a fan of action-packed drama, ancient Roman battles and gladiator-core (ahead of the anticipated Gladiator sequel, of course) then this has to be the next watch for you. Some have likened it to Game of Thrones for its violence and gore, which is to be expected as it does tell the tale of those who worked and died for the games that form the city's major source of entertainment.
While it starts off as mere chariot-racing, soon, appetites turn to gladiator combat and the Colosseum is built. If you're looking for a history lesson here then Those About to Die isn't the most accurate, rather it's a refreshing alternate history series that will have you gripped.

Star Trek: Lower Decks
- 2020
- Action
- Animation
- 15
Summary:
Animated comedy series, which beams down the misadventures of Captain Carol Freeman and the crew of the U.S.S. Cerritos.
How to watchWhy watch Star Trek: Lower Decks? :
If the announcement of a Lower Decks/Doctor Who crossover game has piqued your interest in Star Trek's first animated comedy, it might be time to finally see what all the fuss is about.
While this title was deemed sacrilege when it was first unveiled, introducing anarchic Rick & Morty-style humour to a traditionally dramatic franchise, it has actually managed to carve out a niche for itself in a competitive genre.
The show follows the hapless crew members aboard the USS Cerritos, including Jack Quaid (The Boys) as Brad Boimler and Tawny Newsome (True Story) as Beckett Mariner, as they get into all manner of galactic hijinks.
The two lead characters have proven so popular that they made a live-action guest appearance in the second season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds – and are now rubbing shoulders with the Doctor and River Song! What could they get up to next?
My Lady Jane
- 2024
- Comedy
- Drama
- 15
Summary:
Tudor bloodlines are rewritten in a rollicking historical fantasy romance adapted from the book of the same title penned by Brodi Ashton, Cynthia Hand and Jodi Meadows. Contrary to pages from history, King Henry VIII's son Edward does not die of tuberculosis and 16th-century noblewoman Lady Jane Grey (Emily Bader) does not lose her head after nine days as the Queen of England. Instead, she seizes control of herdestiny flanked by scoundrel husband Guildford Dudley (Edward Bluemel). Jane's mother, Lady Frances Grey (Anna Chancellor), and Guildford's father, Lord Dudley (Rob Brydon), are entangled in the machinations and skulduggery along with Jane's uncle, the Duke of Leicester (Jim Broadbent)
How to watchWhy watch My Lady Jane?:
While it may seem like the only period drama anyone talks about these days is Bridgerton, Prime Video have just released a riotous new series that's set to delve deep into a gloriously reimagined tale.
The alternative story sees the Queen of England skip the beheading we know about from the history books. Instead, she goes on her own journey of true love, adventure, sex and more, all while trying to narrowly avoid the nefarious villains who want the crown on her head. If you're looking for something that's light-hearted, terribly addictive to watch and just plain fun, then this new eight-parter could just be the watchlist highlight for you.

The Boys
- 2019
- Action
- Comedy
- 18
Summary:
Superheroes abuse their superpowers rather than use them for good. Fantasy drama, starring Karl Urban, Jack Quaid and Antony Starr
How to watchWhy watch The Boys?:
One of Prime Video's best-known and best-loved shows, The Boys, is back for its fourth season, and the end is now in sight. Showrunner Eric Kripke has confirmed that the adult superhero series, an adaptation of the comics series of the same name, will come to an end with its fifth run, meaning we only have so many more adventures with Butcher, Hughie and Starlight left to looks forward to.
The series continues to focus on the battle between a rag-tag group of vigilantes and the world's most powerful superheroes, the latter of whom are outrageous, power hungry monsters who need to be stopped. Every episode is still a riot from start to finish, but isn't for the faint of heart – filled with some of the most grotesque violence and shockingly depraved sequences you'll see on TV, The Boys really does take things to another level.
In spite of all this, one of The Boys' best attributes is actually its sense of humour, with an unapologetically satirical edge providing the show with a fun-factor that some of superhero shows just don't have.

- Drama
- Horror
- 18
Summary:
Anthology horror series with varying characters and locations by season, featuring different aspects of the horror genre. Starring Deborah Ayorinde, Ashley Thomas and Shahadi Wright Joseph
How to watchWhy watch Them: The Scare?:
While the first season of this horror anthology drew a mixed response from viewers and critics, the long-awaited second edition has enjoyed a warmer reception with its dark and suspenseful tale.
Them: The Scare takes us to Los Angeles in the early 1990s, where detective Dawn Reeve (Deborah Ayorinde) is tasked with finding the person responsible for the gruesome murder of a foster mother. However, there's more to this case than she could ever have imagined – and it isn't long before a sinister force begins to target her and her family.
The new season has been praised for its powerhouse performance from Ayorinde, who co-stars opposite screen legend Pam Grier (Jackie Brown) and singer-songwriter Luke James (The Chi). Meanwhile, its handling of ever-present themes such as institutional racism and generational trauma has also been highly lauded.
This being an anthology, you could dive straight into the new episodes if you'd prefer, although there is one connecting element that becomes present towards the end of season 2.
Smallville
- 2001
- Action
- Drama
- 12
Summary:
A young Clark Kent struggles to find his place in the world as he learns to harness his alien powers for good and deals with the typical troubles of teenage life in Smallville, Kansas. Superhero adventure following the early escapades of Clark Kent, starring Tom Welling
How to watchWhy watch Smallville?:
Counting down the days until James Gunn's reinvention of Superman hits cinemas? Us too.
One way to tide yourself over would be to dive back into The CW's Smallville, which is available in full on Prime Video and chronicles the early years of a certain Clark Kent (Tom Welling). Like any 'monster-of-the-week' show, not every episode is gold, but there are plenty of great characters to get invested in across the ten-season run.
The early episodes boast a particularly compelling dynamic between Clark and Lex Luthor (Michael Rosenbaum), who begin as friends, but gradually morph into the bitter rivals we know from the DC comic books. As the show goes on, expect plenty of superhero cameos, including early attempts at Aquaman (played by Reacher's Alan Ritchson, no less) and Blue Beetle.
One for the nostalgics!
Clarkson's Farm
- 2021
- Documentary and factual
- Reality
- 15
Summary:
Unscripted reality series following former Top Gear host Jeremy Clarkson as he embarks on his path towards muddy misery and potential ruin by running his own farm.
How to watchWhy watch Clarkson's Farm?:
Love him or loathe him, there's no getting away from Mr Jeremy Clarkson, with the latest season of his farming docuseries proving just as popular as the first two. This time, the broadcaster made it his mission to settle a family of pigs on Diddly Squat, while also trialling various methods of making money from an unused plot of land.
Expect ups and downs, mischief and arguments, and plenty more entertaining banter between Clarkson and his Diddly Squat co-worker Kaleb Cooper. The show has already been renewed for a fourth season, so this won't be our final update about life on the farm.

The Good Doctor
- 2017
- Drama
- 15
Summary:
Medical drama, starring Freddie Highmore as a young surgeon with autism and savant syndrome, trying to make his way in a prestigious big-city hospital
How to watchWhy watch The Good Doctor?:
Believe it or not, The Good Doctor was one of the most-watched shows on US network television during its first three seasons, but never found quite the same popularity on these shores. That's despite the star being recognisable Brit talent Freddie Highmore, who shot to fame as a child in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Finding Neverland before graduating to more adult roles with Bates Motel.
He plays Shaun Murphy, a medical doctor with autism, and his performance has been heralded as one of the show's strongest assets – even earning him a Golden Globe nomination in 2018. That said, The Good Doctor's portrayal of autism hasn't been without its detractors, with some arguing that it leans heavily on media tropes rather than offering a truly realistic exploration.
It's an element worth considering before deciding whether to watch, but American viewers clearly found a lot to like, propelling the show to seven seasons and more than 120 episodes.

How to watchWhy watch Hacks?:
Hacks has become a firm favourite among critics since its debut. The showbiz comedy stars Jean Smart as Deborah Vance, a legendary Las Vegas comedian whose popularity is starting to wane. On a mission to revitalise her act, Vance reluctantly teams up with a “cancelled” young comedy writer named Ava Daniels (Hannah Einbinder).
It makes for a dynamite comedy pairing as the two take an instant disliking to one another but are forced to stick together for the sake of both their careers. The show just earned another round of Emmy nominations to go with last year’s wins, so be sure to catch up on the first two seasons now.
Outer Range

- Sci-fi
- 15
Summary:
Wyoming rancher Royal Abbott fights for his land and stumbles into the midst of a terrible mystery. Thriller starring Josh Brolin and Imogen Poots.
How to watchWhy watch Outer Range?:
With a second season now available to stream on Prime Video, now is the perfect time to catch up on this western/sci-fi mash-up, starring acclaimed actor Josh Brolin. The series follows rancher Royal Abbott, who discovers a strange dark void at the edge of his land in Wyoming.
It's a slow burn show, and not for those seeking immediate sci-fi thrills or quick, easy answers to many of the mysteries it poses. However, with such a brilliant cast including Brolin, Imogen Poots and Lili Taylor, as well as the asking of some profound questions at its core, it's well worth watching for genre fanatics and general viewers alike.

The Man in the High Castle
- 2015
- Drama
- History
- 12
Summary:
Dystopian alternate history drama, starring Alexa Davalos and based on the 1962 novel of the same name by Philip K Dick. In 1962, the Axis powers have won the Second World War and divided the United States into the Greater Nazi Reich, with New York City as its regional capital, comprising more than half of the eastern part of the continent and the Japanese Pacific States, with San Francisco as capital, to the west.
How to watchWhy watch The Man in the High Castle:
One of Prime Video's earliest original programmes, The Man in the High Castle ran for four seasons and made waves when it first arrived, but its viewership and interest dropped off somewhat over time. In truth, the quality of some of the episodes did the same, but that doesn't mean it's not worth revisiting the earlier seasons, if only for the intriguing concept.
Part alternate history, part sci-fi, it was based on the novel by Philip K Dick and centred around a group of people living in North America following the Second World War, but in this universe, the Axis Powers of Nazi Germany and the Empire of Japan won the war and took control of the territory.
When this series works, it really works, and that is in no small part thanks to some incredible production design and some terrific performances from the likes of Alexa Davalos, Rupert Evans and particularly Rufus Sewell.

Downton Abbey
- 2010
- Drama
- History
- 12
Summary:
Costume drama following the lives of the aristocratic Crawley family and their servants. The ensemble cast includes Hugh Bonneville (Robert, Earl of Grantham), Maggie Smith (Violet, Dowager Countess of Grantham), Michelle Dockery (Lady Mary Crawley), Elizabeth McGovern (Cora, Countess of Grantham), Penelope Wilton (Isobel Crawley), Jim Carter (Charlie Carson), Joanne Froggatt (Anna) and Laura Carmichael (Lady Edith Crawley). Highclere Castle in Hampshire, the home to the Earl and Countess of Carnarvon, provides the backdrop to the series, and is used for much of the interior filming. Outdoor scenes are shot in the Oxfordshire village of Bampton while the servants' living quarters were constructed and filmed at Ealing Studios. Originally set in 1912, "Downton Abbey" was created by Oscar-winning writer Julian Fellowes ("Gosford Park") and premiered on ITV in September 2010.
How to watchWhy watch Downton Abbey?:
With a third film on the way, Downton Abbey continues to make headlines almost 10 years after the series ended - and it's not hard to see why. While Bridgerton has recently put a new and much-loved spin on the period drama genre, Downton remains one of the most iconic historical costume dramas of all time, having amassed a huge fanbase across its run.
The show also helped to either launch or bolster the careers of its incredible cast, which included the likes of Hugh Bonneville, Michelle Dockery, Dan Stevens and even the iconic Maggie Smith. Full of messy drama, historical landmarks and steamy romances, the show has had a cultural impact like very few others, and won a huge number of awards during its initial run. All six seasons are available to stream now.

Bad Education

- Comedy
- Drama
- 15
Summary:
Comedy following the pupils and staff of the dysfunctional Abbey Grove secondary school
How to watchWhy watch Bad Education?:
The first three seasons of this BBC school sitcom are now available to stream on Prime Video, and while the recent revivals of a fourth and fifth season have been more successful than many may have expected, it's still true that this really was the show's golden era.
This is in no small part due to the star power of Jack Whitehall, who not only created the show but also played the lead role of Alfie Wickers, the most incompetent yet largely well-meaning teacher imaginable. The jokes come thick and fast, with the likes of Mathew Horne and Harry Enfield also providing memorable turns, but the show also has a real heart and characters that you can truly root for.

Summary:
Daring surgeons (and inseparable best friends) Dr Klak and Dr Sleech work at The Second Best Hospital in the Galaxy where they frequently risk everything to take on the most dangerous cases in the universe.
How to watchWhy watch The Second Best Hospital in the Galaxy?:
Prime Video are slowly but surely bringing out some animated hits, but this latest addition to the streamer may just usurp them all. The new series follows Dr Sleech and Dr Klak as they tackle all kinds of medical and alien-related problems. With everything from anxiety-eating parasites to deep-space STIs, this series obviously focuses on the medical tasks at hand but has the sci-fi tones of Rick & Morty, while also being very hilarious.
We can't forgo mentioning the terribly star-studded cast in the series as well, with the likes of Natasha Lyonne, Keke Palmer, Stephanie Hsu and more all lending their voices for the show. If you're looking for a slightly random hoot of a watch, then look no further.

Mr & Mrs Smith
- 2024
- Action
- Comedy
- 15
Summary:
New TV show based on the 2005 movie starring Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, here created by Francesca Sloane and Donald Glover. One asset (Glover) of a global spy agency is offered the perfect cover story for his high-risk missions: a new identity, John Smith, an arranged marriage to fellow spy Jane Smith (Maya Erskine) and a luxurious home in Manhattan to maintain the illusion of wedded bliss. John and Jane immerse themselves in the lie and publicly mark relationship milestones while they conduct espionage around the world. When they begin to experience genuine feelings for each other, the sharp-shooting operatives question their commitment to the killing game.
How to watchWhy watch Mr & Mrs Smith?:
Recreating a film as a TV series is no easy feat but actually, this re-imagining of Mr & Mrs Smith has done a great job of taking what you thought the series was going to end up being and flipping it on its head.
The series follows two people who are employed by a secret spy organisation to complete dangerous missions for a big sum of money. Glover and Maya Erskine star as newly appointed John and Jane Smith who, in the midst of these missions, start to develop real feelings for each other. The love story is a sweet one, interspersed with some tense action sequences, but the series also packs a punch with its star-studded cast, that will take you by surprise almost as much as how watchable this series is.

Expats

- Romance
- 15
Summary:
Set against the complex tapestry of Hong Kong residents, Expats depicts a multi-faceted group of women after a single encounter sets off a chain of life-altering events that leaves everyone navigating the intricate balance between blame and accountability.
How to watchWhy watch Expats?:
If you’ve seen Nicole Kidman in the likes of Big Little Lies or The Undoing, you’ll know she does a frazzled, wealthy mother character rather excellently – and since all of these roles feel very similar tonally, the real gems of Expats are more in the performances from her co-leads, Sarayu Blue and Ji-young Yoo.
These three women each represent a different facet of the expat community in Hong Kong in 2014 and, set against the political backdrop of the time, the series also gives a voice to the underrepresented domestic workers who have come to the wealthy city with hopes for more. Class and privilege are interrogated with detail, while the cinematic feel of the show will keep you engaged throughout.

- Drama
- History
- 15
Summary:
Eli Whipp, a retired Pawnee scout out to claim his birthright, meets Cornelia Locke, an Englishwoman hell-bent on revenge. Drama, starring Emily Blunt and Chaske Spencer
How to watchWhy watch The English?:
This Western series, a collaboration between the BBC and Prime Video, was one of the most acclaimed shows of 2022, picking up both BAFTA and BAFTA Craft Awards nominations and garnering some exceptional reviews. Plus, it stars Emily Blunt, Chaske Spencer, Rafe Spall and Toby Jones, among others – what’s not to like?
It’s a thrilling revenge story which goes to some dark places, but is also rooted in a deep exploration of character. It is one of the most visually striking Westerns ever put to screen, too, with bold, bright colours to contrast some of the darker subject matters. It flew somewhat under the radar when it first aired on the BBC, but is definitely worth checking out.
